Arleen Bonnie Thompson

October 15, 1928 - December 17, 2011

Arleen Donalda Thompson (nee McPhee)

Arleen Donalda, known to friends as Bonnie or Donnie, slipped away peacefully of natural causes at her idyllic setting on the banks of the Kootenay Lake in Nelson, BC. Bonnie is survived by her loving husband Don, with whom she had been married for more than 55 years. She is also survived by her sister Isabel Daley of London, Ontario, and her children Eric, Richard, Daniel and Kathryn (Kato), their spouses Marilyn, Jolene and Ron and her grandchildren Erin and David, Ryan and Erika, and Ryley and Caiden. She was predeceased by her son Russell.
Bonnie was born in Ayton in Grey County, Ontario. Her sunny disposition and generous spirit had an incredible impact on all who encountered her throughout her life. There are very few who met her who were not touched and who did not leave the encounter feeling better about themselves and their world. Travels took her around the world but she perhaps had her most fond memories of her early life experiences in England as a young woman. She was a teacher, a campaign manager, a wedding consultant, and above all a committed and loving mother and wife. Her lessons will never be forgotten by her children and her spirit will always be remembered.
Bonnie was well known for her love of pets, and there were many. Her duck Ernie was a constant companion and Ginger the cat will not be the same without her. A Canadian through and through, Bonnie married a husband from Saskatchewan, lived in Ontario, spent time in Quebec and spent the last 13 years with her Children in Alberta and British Columbia.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation on Bonnie’s behalf to the charity of your choice. Bonnie would be particularly grateful for donations made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (three of her children had to contend with this disease) or to the Heart and Stroke Fund (which she supported throughout her life).

Mrs. T…..you will always be remembered as a wonderful mom and a second mom to me. Your home in the Richmond Hill was my second home and I was always welcomed with cookies, tea, pancakes and anything else you would put together for Kato and I. I am so glad you were able to move out west to be with your children. Kato’s wedding will always be remembered as one of my kids highlights. You are a wonderfulful person and now you will be with Richard making him a cup of tea. Your family is wonderful and they will all put together strengh to take care of Dr. T. Until we meet again, have some tea and think of all the hearts you have warmed and neurterued throughout all the years…god bless Mrs. T.

What a lovely woman. I only knew her for a few years but was amazed at how resilient and strong she was. I would also like to light a candle for Dan and Jolene. These two made Bonnie’s last few years comfortable and enjoyable. Hats off to your endless compassion and care.
