Barbara Joan Benedetti (Williams)

October 17, 1937 - January 26, 2020

It is with sadness, but also a sense of relief that she no longer lives with Alzheimer’s, that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Barbara Joan Benedetti at Jubilee Manor in Nelson on January 26th, 2020 at the age of 82.

The youngest of four, mom was born in Noranda, Quebec on October 17th, 1937 to Fred and Louisa Williams. Her family moved to lower Fairview in Nelson when she was 5 years old. She lived in Fairview her whole able life, never moving higher than 3rd St. because she loved Lakeside Park and the area, and didn’t like the snow higher up! Mom attended school at Hume, Trafalgar, and was in the last graduating class of the old Nelson High School. She was then asked to be the first secretary at the new high school, L.V. Rogers. Mom later went on to be the secretary at Hume School for 30 very happy years until her retirement. Students loved to trick-or-treat at “Mrs. Benedetti’s” house and there are many stories of how kind she was during her years there.

In December of 1956, mom married Syl Benedetti. They were married 61 years until his passing in January 2018.

Mom enjoyed many activities including; reading, flower gardening, cross country skiing, and especially golfing. You could find her on the course or organizing and helping with club activities in some capacity with the many friends she and dad met there over the years.

Mom is survived by her children; Brad (Linda), Janet (Dennis), and Vivian. Grandchildren; Dustin, Clayton, Amy, Michael, and Gary. Sister-in-law Nina Benedetti, brother-in-law Ray Benedetti and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no service as per mom’s request.

We would like to say thank you to the wonderful, caring and compassionate staff at Jubilee Manor where mom lived for several years until her passing.

Dear Families of Barb, it is with much sadness I read of your Mom’s passing. My heart hurts for all who knew and loved her, for she was truly a beautiful soul. I first met your Mom, when I moved to Fairview and attended Hume school, I was eight. Throughout my years there, your Mom was a Godsend to me, she helped me in so many ways, that it would take years to recount. Your Mom was my only light in the tunnel, so to speak, when I was at Hume. Years later, my own children would come to love your Mom with as much love as I had experienced with her. I thank your Mom for being an amazing woman and inspiration to so many children and adults. Barb will be missed terribly by me and my children, and I’m sure, everyone who had the pleasure to know her! Hugs and prayers to you all.

I was brought up on Third Street also and would see her going past the house and she was always so nice. I also babysat her children and both Barb and Sil were so nice. Barb is at peace now. Condolences to her family.

Condolences to Barb’s family. Barbara was a wonderful woman. I worked at SD #7 and knew for years. Always a hello and sweet smile in the city. I was surprised to learn that my sister went to high school and graduated with her about class of 1954/55. May she Rest In Peace.

In the hearts of those she touched,
For nothing loved is ever lost
And she was loved so much.”
