Cheryl Foote (Maglio)

October 17, 1958 - November 20, 2019

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cheryl Maglio-Foote on Wednesday November 20, 2019 after a battle with Dementia. She was born in Nelson on October 17, 1958 and that is where her heart remained. As a fixture of the community, she attended LV Rogers School, before moving onto several jobs in town. From an A&W roller girl, to Hood’s bakery, to the Credit Union, to Quality Produce, Cowan’s Office Supply and finally finishing up her career at the Nelson Star, she was a visible figure in the Kootenays. She embodied what it was to be from Nelson – she was hearty, full of love and had a spirit of determination. Her warmth and unbridled commitment to her friends and family will be sadly missed.

She leaves behind her three daughters Erica, Ashley and Alyssa and their spouses; her grandchildren: Ethan, Beau and Riley; her brothers John, Terry and Glenn; her sister Lynn; her Step-Mother Marilyn and hundreds of close friends and loved ones. However,  she joins her father, John Maglio and her beloved mother, Phyllis Stevens.  Special thank you to Pat, Catherine, Glenda, Terry, Shauna, Jenn, Rod, and all those who spent countless hours by her bedside in her final years. Mountain Lakes provided high quality care and their classy send-off where the entire staff gathered to see her leave the facility will remain in our hearts forever.

As a tribute to Cheryl, who was famous for her hugs, laughter and love of socializing around a warm cup of tea, please hold a loved one close, phone a friend you haven’t spoken to in awhile and savour a cup of tea. When you do that, she is there with you.

Cheryl loved unconditionally and sacrificed a great deal for her friends, family and loved ones. She will be intensely missed.  As an ardent fan of Elton John, and a person who loved everyone for who they were, she reminded us “how wonderful life is while you’re in the world.” But to a beautiful mother, a loving friend and an amazing woman, we would love to remind her of “A Candle in the Wind.” Specifically,  where Elton John sang “Your candle’s burned out long before your legend ever will.”

 We love you Mom.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the early summer and will be announced at a later date.

Went to high school with Cheryl and met up with her again when I moved back to Nelson about 20 years ago. Truly a delightful person and your tribute to her captures her authenticity and wonder.

Erica, Ashley,Alyssa and families, Your Mom has been a friend and will be missed by all. She saved me more than once if only getting me home safe on a late night or taking the reception job at the dental office when we were in a bind after 2 girls quit. She always did more than was expected and always with a smile. I swear the professional office cleaners were not as thorough as Cheryl was when she was there and everything was organized better than ever! Cheryl sewed my daughters first communion dress better than any seamstress, and the lovely albums she made me I will cherish forever along with her prized recipes which we enjoyed with tea many times over the past 40+ years. No matter what was going on in life Cheryl always made time to see how others were making out and even in the last years when I was not around as much after moving out to the countryside, she would come out or call and always make the extra effort to stay in touch and be present. It humbles me and makes me want to be a better person for knowing your wonderful Mama but I know her Mom and Dad are there with open arms. We will carry on smiling and giving hugs until we meet agin my friend. We were honoured to call you friend but really family is what it felt like as you made all welcome. Love Shauna & Eric & family <3

I recall first meeting Cheryl when she was employed at the Credit Union and then again in later years at the Nelson Star office. She was always the most friendly, smiling person. May she rest in peace. My sympathy to her family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Cheryl was always so kind to me, particularly at Cowan’s when I needed extra help. She will most definitely be missed.
