Cora Leona Lunn

December 23, 1929 - March 19, 2021

It is with great sadness that Maxine and Jim announce the passing of their mother Cora, on the afternoon of March 19, 2021 at the age of 91.  She passed peacefully with both of us at her side. There was a storm brewing outside. We heard a clap of thunder and then the sun shone brightly.  No doubt in our minds that Dad came to take her home once more.

Mom grew up in Elphinstone Manitoba and somehow ended up in Cranbrook, where she met Bill, her husband of 60 years.  Cora worked at the BC Telephone Company both in Cranbrook and in Nelson, after they relocated here in 1953.  Most of her life was dedicated to raising the two of us.  She was a very wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.  Family and friends always came fist with her, although she had no trouble pointing her finger at any of us to give us what for—always keeping us in line…

Cora and Bill loved to spend time fishing at their favorite fishing holes at 12 Mile, Twin Bays and especially Sunshine Bay.  Eventually they found themselves a trailer and set up camp at Woodbury resort.  They spent many hours around the campfire with friends new and old, listening to country music and playing cards.  We all have a lifetime of memories from the time we were able to spend there.

Cora also loved bowling, especially Snowfest and 3-6-9 tournaments.  Casino trips to Reno were a favorite, especially at Christmas.  We soon realized it was her way to get out of making turkey dinner!! Mom and Dad also spent a lot of time taking bus trips to Bonners Ferry and Coeur d’Alene casinos.  I joined them many times, she got me hooked.  Mom had “horseshoes” if you know what I mean!  That always came in very handy when we went through our daily allowance. Mom also loved gardening; roses and petunias and sweet peas were her favorites.  She loved watching crime TV shows and was crazy about her crossword puzzles.  She also spent many years volunteering at the IODE.

Cora was predeceased by her parents Peter and Margaret, her husband Bill and her brother and sisters Dick, Mary, Anna, Jane, and daughter-in-law Susan.  She is survived by her children Maxine (John) and Jim, her grandchildren Jennifer (Les), Jason (Randi) Gillian (David) and great grandchildren Colten, Jacob, Mason, Isaac, Luca, Lyndon, Elias and Falynn. She also had nieces in the Lower Mainland, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Jim and I would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Tuvel, Dr. Vanderberg, the community home nurses and all the 3rd floor staff at KLGH including the nurses at the infusion clinic for the wonderful care they gave our mother in the last few years.

Mom has been cremated and there will be no service at her request. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Kootenay Lake General Hospital Foundation.

We spent a lot of time teasing her about all the hours she put in with her vacuum cleaner and dust buster. Well Mom, your work is finally done. We would give the world to see you again, but you always told us “You can’t bring back yesterday”. You will be in our hearts forever! Maxine, Jim and families.
