David L. Oswald

May 7, 1942 - February 2, 2017

It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of David (Dave) Oswald on

February 2nd, 2017. He will truly be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, great

advice, as well as being a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Dave

was always a pillar to the family and was there for all of us when we needed help. Whether

that was helpful advice, a home renovation, or just a few laughs. Dave was always there and

he will be deeply missed. From his many years working as a professional forester for the BC

Forest Service, he was also an interesting man to talk to. He had great knowledge of the

Nelson area that he called home, and for many years enjoyed hiking and skiing here with his

Dave is survived by his wife Cathie, daughter Andrea Jarman (Brian), grandsons Adam, Eric

and Greg; his son Alex (Collette) and granddaughter Jaeda. He also leaves behind his sisters

Diane Kirkbride (Brian), Carol Burns (Bill), Lorna Leinbach, his brother-in-law John Sinker, and

many nieces and nephews and their families.

In accordance with Dave's wishes, there will not be a service, a family gathering will be

planned for later.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation would be

greatly appreciated.

Cathie and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
Dave was a wonderful man, and both you and he will always remain in my heart. Both of you were so very kind to me after a tragedy at work many years ago.
I still and always will cherish the
Bronze Quebec medallion that still adorns my keychain, that you both brought me back as a souvenir from Montreal many years ago.

My thoughts, love and prayers are with you at this most difficult time.

Formerly of Nelson and now residing in Kamloops BC

Relation: forestry colleague

To Cathie and family. My sincere condolences at Dave’s passing. I first met and worked with Dave in the early 80’s when I was working for Drew Sawmills in Malakwa. We had licenses in the Nelson Region and I had many very enjoyable encounters with Dave. He was a very skilled, well informed administrator and importantly, he cared about the priorities of the people he worked with. Years later, I had the privilege of becoming the province’s Chief Forester and I enjoyed and benefited from the exchanges that I had with Dave during those years. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.
