Dianne Mae Hallstrom (Dewar)

March 9, 1951 - January 8, 2022

Dianne Mae Hallstrom  (nee Dewar)

March 9, 1951 to January 8, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dianne Mae Hallstrom, (nee Dewar) on January 08, 2022.

Dianne was predeceased by her loving husband Don and her parents Doug and Gwen Dewar. Dianne is remembered by her family; stepdaughter Crystal Hallstrom (Andrew Dennison) grandsons Bryce and Cole of Wisconsin, adopted daughter Partricia Adams of Calgary, her grandchildren Danielle, Braden and Dylan. Brother Ken Dewar (Darlene)  nephew Kyle and family and  niece Kathleen all of Strathmore AB as well as her extended family, cousins Jim Dewar, Colleen Vary McCall, Jess Vary, Brother in law Gordon Hallstrom (Eleanor) and their  families.

Dianne was born in Lachute, Quebec near her grandparents farm at Lake MacDonald, as her dad was on a military tour to Germany. Throughout her youth many months were spent at the lake and many wonderful memories and lifelong friendships made.

Dianne and her late husband Don retired to Riondel in 2002, Don’s hometown. Dianne loved the community, the lake life and the many friendships she developed there, through her quilting group, her time on the Community Lake Council and simply being a part of the community. She loved it.

Dianne’s close friendship with her cousin Jim Dewar was a treasured one of many years, Jim was like a brother to Dianne and we all extend our sincere thanks to him as he moved to Riondel to support Di during the past 14 months.

Dianne developed a close bond with her step-daughter Crystal. She visited Crystal in Wisconsin on many of her cross country road trips. She enjoyed seeing Crystal and her two young boys, Cole and Bryce and loved getting pictures in the mail. When Crystal suffered a serious illness, Dianne was right there to care for her and help her recover, which Crystal will always remember and be thankful for.

It was during her work with the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary that she met Patricia and instantly connected. Dianne and Patti referred to each other as their chosen family, and they were lucky to have developed a loving relationship, Dianne and Don were so happy to adopt Patti and have a daughter closeby.  Along with gaining a daughter they also gained three grandchildren who they enjoyed watching grow up. Dianne was so proud to be at Danielle and Bryan’s wedding, and took a road trip across Canada to watch Braden graduate from basic training in Quebec.

Dianne loved to travel. She and her good friend Beverly travelled to Peru and India to provide eye care aid to those in need, she was very passionate about this aid.

In her later years Dianne bought a small motor home and took off on many adventures to escape the snow and Canadian winters, sometimes travelling with other RV’ers, sometimes on her own, visiting cousins in Tennessee, Quebec or Crystal in Wisconsin, as well as spending time with her brother and sister-in-law in Arizona. Dianne was always up for an adventure and finding things off the beaten path, whether it be a yard sale, a second hand shop or boon docking, she was willing to go anywhere!

Rest in Peace Dianne, a wonderful special person who will not be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or your local animal shelter, as if you know Dianne you know she loved her dogs. A service will be held in the summer of 2022. Those wishing to be notified of the date should email kathleen.dewar@ gmail.com
