Doreen Ruth Whitfield (Robertson)
March 21, 1925 - January 23, 2017
Tribute
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Whitfield on January 23, 2017.
Born in Calgary to James and Harriet Robertson, she moved with her family to Nelson in 1936. Following high school, she attended business college and worked at the Nelson City Hall until her marriage to Frank “Bud” Whitfield on June 4, 1949.
While raising her family she also enjoyed curling, knitting and weekly bridge games but her favourite times were at the cabin at Queens Bay for over 60 years. She always looked forward to the summer visits with grandchildren and later with great grandchildren. Her retirement years included learning to golf and enjoying many winters in California where she made a number of good friends that she continued to stay in touch with.
Predeceased by her parents and sister Delma, she is survived by her husband Bud, daughter Karen (Donn) Kraynick, and son Frank.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Lee Kraynick, Jan (Mark) Fairbairn, Kathryn (Tyler) Bothorel, and Collen (Tyson) Nagy along with 8 great grandchildren
A grave side memorial will be held with family in the summer.
The family would like to thank Dr. Andre Kirsten and the staff at the Kootenay Lake Hospital for the compassionate care and concerns for Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kootenay Lake Healthcare Auxiliary to which she held a continuing membership
