G. Bruce "Ferg" Ferguson

November 9, 1947 - March 7, 2022

It is with extreme sadness that the family of Bruce (Ferg) Ferguson announce his passing after a brave fight with cancer.  Bruce passed away peacefully at Kootenay Lake Hospital in the morning of March 7 with his family at his side.  Bruce was a wonderful father and grandpa and is survived by his three children, Jody, Tracy (Eric) and Cory and his three grandchildren, Toscane, Emeric and Taiya. Bruce is also survived by his caring sister, Judi. Bruce was preceded by his loving wife Beverly, five months prior.

Bruce was born and raised in Nelson and made the town his forever home with Beverly, his lifelong partner of 53 years.  Hockey was a passion in his life and he played for the Nelson Junior Leafs winning the provincial championship in 1968.  He continued to play recreational hockey for years after and watched hockey with a passion, always cheering for his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.

Bruce became a legend of the school district, working as a bus driver for over 41 years, driving generations of families.  His passion for helping others was never more evident than when he cared for the children on his bus, always making them laugh and feeling important.  He often dressed as Santa Claus for Blewett School and delivered hampers, with his work mates, for those in need.  He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed every day at work, joking with his peers.

Bruce’s favorite memories were created at the cherished family cabin on the lake where he spent countless hours entertaining his children and grandchildren with endless activities.  Nights were spent around the bonfire laughing with many family members and friends.  Bruce always looked forward to his bi-yearly guys’ trip to Bonners.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bruce’s name to your local elementary or secondary school would be appreciated. A celebration of life will be held on July 31 at the Hume Hotel between 1-4 pm.

Bruce will be forever missed by many.  His sense of humor and caring nature will be remembered.  He will always be in our thoughts.

Hey Ferg!! Our thoughts are with you!! And of cousre Bev as well. I had the privalege of working with you for many years at the school district. Some as a fellow bus driver and some as a supervisor. You could always be counted on to do the right thing and help wherever you could. MY wife Lydia also worked with your wife at the bank and they had many laughs together as well. Bev was a very nice person and you were a couple made in heaven and now you are in heaven together again and for eternity. Cheers to Ferg and Bev!!!

My heartfelt condolences to Bruce’s Family. I was fortunate to get to know Bruce (Ferg) through our work. He was a highly respected bus driver, who I would describe as cool, calm and collected. I often joked with Ferg that he would get us to our destination in record breaking time! It was heartwarming to watch Ferg interact and connect with the students. The students thought the world of him. I’ll miss seeing Ferg behind the wheel. However, I’m so grateful to have known such a caring and fun loving person who always brought a smile to my face. He will be dearly missed.

Relation: We worked together for over 40 years.

My deepest sympathy goes to Bruce’s wonderful family. He was a one in a million kind of guy! I worked with Bruce at the school district forever. We had lots of conversations about retiring…not this year, he would say…”Mr. Mastercard and Mr. Visa won’t let me!” He had a huge heart and would go the extra mile to pick up a child outside their home to save the mother a long walk to the bus stop. Ferg loved all the kids and all the kids loved him. He made this world a better place and will be greatly missed.

To the children and families of Bruce and Bev……we are saddened to hear of your dad’s passing, and previously of your mom. They were best man and bridesmaid for Larry and I at our wedding 54 years ago. We kept in touch periodically by email and loved them both very much. They were special and sorry for your loss. You all were very much loved and cherished. God bless and may you be comforted to know they are together again. Love and hugs Larry and Jill Zimmer
