George Vincent Trainor

Date of Death: May 3, 2019

George Vincent Trainor
December 14, 1934 – May 3, 2019

George was born in the old Kootenay Lake Hospital, the youngest son of Honora Christina Murphy of Kaslo and George Edwin Trainor of Kinkora, Prince Edward Island. He attended St. Josephs Academy and Notre Dame College in Nelson, Christ the King Seminary in Burnaby, Southern Alberta Technical School in Calgary, and then hired on at the Canadian Pacific Railway, where he worked as a brakeman and conductor for 35 years.

In his youth he excelled at hockey, lacrosse, basketball and was a great left handed pitcher for many teams. He loved the outdoors and his fishing and camping trips

He met the love of his life, Evelyn Riesterer in first grade, where they sat across the aisle from each other, and their romance continued through the years. His brother, Monsignor Les Trainor married them in the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate on July 15, 1957.

They were blessed with eight “jewels” – Carey Michelle (Dennis Tank), George Robert (Lisa Bolen), Shauna-Marie (Eric Eggers), Leslie Gerard (Shauna Shalley), Jennifer Rosaleen (Dave Scott), Noraleigh Ann (Howie Steele), Aileen Marisa (Dean Zarikoff), Maryjean Louisa (Scott Le Buke).

George was a lifetime member of the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate, serving as Bishop Martin Johnsons alter server throughout his school years. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, and Foresters.

His main job in the summer was driving his eight children to their various swim meets, which lasted for 20 years.

George was a humble, caring, and trustworthy man, full of fun, and his wit and contagious laugh will be greatly missed.

He was predeceased by his parents, brother Most Reverend Les Trainor, sisters Kay McGauley, and sister Rosalee Trainor C.S.J.P., and is survived by his wife and soulmate Evelyn, sister Aileen Trainor C.S.J.P., eight children, 20 grandchildren – Aaron Eggers (Patti Jean), Sarah Eggers (Justin Remple), Tanya Eggers (Kevin Briggeman) Ryan Keller (Brittany), Jamie Keller (Phil Allen), Geri Trainor (Wayde Hicks), Merisa Trainor (Dan Butler), George M. Trainor, Katlyn Trainor, Les Trainor, Jordan, Braeden and Ashley Zarikoff, Kaleigh Scott (Dan Donald), Kelsie Scott (Mike Larsen), Shayne Scott (Rachel), Reath and Bryan Trainor and Bailey and James Le Buke. As well as 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The world has lost a great man. There will be a little less laughter on earth, but a grand time in Heaven! There will be a private family service at a later date.

Condolences to all of the Trainors for their loss. Mr. Trainor was so much fun to be around for all of us kids, even when he kicked our butts at crib. Lots of laughs and many great memories of a wonderful man….

So many memories shared in the Trainor household. It was always such a warm inviting place to be in my teenage years and beyond and Mr. T with his calm presence and mischievous chuckle was a huge part of that. My warm thoughts and condolences are with you all. No doubt you will feel a great loss with the vacancy of the captain’s chair but I know you will find comfort knowing he is at peace and he is smiling down on you!! For me….I will always think fondly of Mr. T every time I bite into a juicy piece of celery!!! : )

Much love,
Terri (Lindsey) Nelson

I am so sorry to hear of your great loss. I have blurry memories of your father when I was lucky enough to come over to your giant house on the hill to play with my pal Jennifer. I do remember a happy home with lots of laughter. May you find peace and healing in each others presence.

Sincere condolences to the Trainor family. Growing up with Maryjean meant lots of wonderful times with the Trainor family. We were often hosted by Mr. & Mrs. Trainor for lunches, parties, sleepovers, and rides all over town in the big blue car. Without fail our encounters included lots of laughter and I’m sure we made it into their prayers a number of times (something like: Dear God, watch over those crazy girls!). I was lucky enough to hear Mr. Trainor’s booming and wholehearted laugh just this past summer while visiting for our high school reunion. As MJs friends we were always welcomed into the Trainor household…a place we loved to visit. As the founder and rock of the family, Mr Trainor will truly be missed, but his love of life, family, and friends carries on in the hearts of his many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. I won’t say “Rest in Peace”, because I’m pretty sure he’s up there cracking jokes with God and causing a ruckus! Lots of love Trainor Family. He was a gem and he was yours.
