Gordon Eagleson

September 12, 1946 - June 8, 2020

Gordon was born on September 12, 1946 in New Westminster, BC and passed away at Mountain Lake Senior’s Community on June 8, 2020.

He was predeceased by his older sister Faithe Dietz in 1961, his father Gordon in 1968 and his mother Evelyn (nee) Kirby in 1992.

He is survived by his sister Sandra Day, nephew Peter of Prince George, and his brother Joseph Eagleson of Nelson, BC. He will also be greatly missed by his many cousins and friends.

Gordon relocated to Tuxford, SK along with his family before moving to High River, AB when he was 12. He played pitcher for his ball team and was involved in the High River Active Club. He attended S.A.I.T and took courses to become a chef. As a chef, he worked at a few prestigious hotels and in his early 30’s, he left food service to work at the post office in Calgary. He transferred to Nelson in 1980 and worked for Canada Post for 25 years before retiring.

Gord, along with his brother Joe, catered many functions for family and friends over the years. He loved being active and enjoyed golfing, hiking and road trips on his motorcycle with cousins and friends. He took many trips with the Elder Hostel group; his last major trip was a trip through China with his brother Joe.

Gordon will be well remembered for his fabulous sense of humour, his quick wit, and the sparkle in his eyes. He was loved by all those who knew him, and will be dearly missed. Gordon will be interred in the High River Cemetery.

Dear Sandra and Joey,
I was so sad to hear of Gordon’s death. My deep condolences. During my 26 years in Canada, I got to know Gary a little through my husband Ted Kirby, Ev’s nephew. We had many conversations and I particularly enjoyed his sense of humour and his insight into the workings of the Post Office! I saw him last time in 2012. However, when I was over last year I bumped into Joey, and I understand at that time, Gary was still up the Slocan Valley. It came as a shock when a joint acquaintance informed me he was in Mountain Lake and then shortly after that he had died, I knew him as a kind, gracious man, and I am so sorry for your loss. My love and thoughts go out to you.
Te Rangimarie ki a korua (Peace to you both).

From: Tree Anderson
Relation: A very dear friend

I would like to send my sympathy to Joe and all of Gord’s family. Gord was like a big brother to me and one of my best friends. He was always there for me through the tough times but mostly for some of the best times of my live. We learned to ride our motorcycles together and spent many hours enjoying our rides. He taught me how to cook such wonderful meals and we shared a lot of those over the years. Regretfully, life sent us in different directions in the last few years and we did not spend much time together but Gord will always be in my heart and in my memories. I loved you Gord and will miss you, as I know all you will.

Hi Joe. This came as a shock to us. Hope you are holding up. He’s going to be missed that’s for sure. I can remember Gary’s love for all things food! He was no happier than when he was cooking up a storm…a 12 course feast-fest for a house-full of guests! Just such a great guy. He always had time for a wee chat at the P.O. if he was there when I popped in. Our thoughts and prayers and condolences going out to you Joe and also Sandra. Stay safe bud. Hope to see you sometime. Please do let us know how you are doing. Our email is jamesross10@hotmail.com. Phone: 250-359-7592
