Tribute
Hugo Gabriel Le Bihan passed away peacefully at the age of 71 years on June 13, 2019 at the Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson, BC, after a courageous attempt to beat pancreatic cancer. He is survived by Judi, his loving wife for 48 years; daughter Nicole; son Chris; daughter-in-law Naomi; grandchildren Hugo, Beau and Neve; and many nieces, nephews and canines. Gabe is predeceased by his mother Edna Le Bihan; father George Le Bihan; and sister Gale McCoy. Gabe was born and raised in Alberta, and in 1981 he settled in Kelowna, BC with his young family. He and Judi recently moved to Nelson, BC to live out their retirement years on a small farm.
Gabe was respected for his lifetime career as a professional engineer in structural design and his legacy in the Okanagan is reflected in the countless buildings that he proudly designed. He loved cycling, riding his motorcycle, watching sports and following advances in technology. He was always excited to build, fix or renovate a house. Gabe was known by his friends, family and colleagues for his calm confidence, no-nonsense attitude, strong work ethic and non-judgmental acceptance of everyone. He was fearless, genuine, loving and totally devoted to his family. He will be deeply missed by so many loved ones.
A celebration of life will take place on the family farm at 4pm, Saturday, July 13 in Nelson, BC. Please go to the following link for further details: https://www.paperlesspost.com/flyer/go/KyKbvN1sMPoko9ibDoPB

Farewell to Gabe, our friend who we admired as a man of integrity and loyalty – a wonderful family man, athlete and Tom’s best cycling buddy. The condolences pouring in show that many people felt that Gabe had touched their lives in some way and that we was held in high regard by all of them. May everyone’s memories and stories keep Gabe’s memory strong in our minds and hearts. 💕

Weninger Construction & Design would like to extend our sincere condolences to Gabe’s family and friends. Marlin Weninger and the whole team here in our office were sad to hear the news of Gabe’s passing. Gabe worked with us as a structural engineer for 20+ years, and we really valued his expertise, approach to work, and work ethic. Because of the long standing relationship we had with Gabe, we thought his loved ones might like to hear about a few of the many projects he worked on with our company through the years.
– The Grizzly Lodge (a large apartment complex built in 1999 at Big White that can be seen while riding the Happy Valley Gondola)
– Kenneth Park (a large mixed residential/commercial building engineered to be eco-friendly in Duncan on Vancouver Island)
– Several of the standalone custom chalets we completed over the years at Big White, which faced some unique engineering challenges that Gabe helped us to meet
Weninger Construction will miss working with Gabe, and our best wishes go out to his family & friends during this difficult time.

Gabe kindly drew up the plans, then inspected our barn. Judi and I spent time in the saddle together on a number of occasions over the years. My heart goes out to you Judi, and your family. I’ll always remember Gabe for his gentle manner and lovely smile. Heartfelt hugs. Laura and Malcolm.
