Ina Catherina Loeschnik

December 27, 1941 - January 26, 2022

December 27, 1941 marked the day that Ina Catherina was born in Veenadaal, Netherland. Daughter of Tonie and Cornella Vink and sister to Mary, Reese, Bob, and Tonie Junior. In 1953, at the young age of twelve, Ina immigrated with her family to Victoria, BC, Canada. Here she would live and love for the next six decades; in 1962, she met and married her husband Karl Loeschnik. The following spring their marriage was blessed with the birth of their firstborn son Michael Karl, and a few short years later, their darling daughter Inger Julie was born. Together, Ina and Karl raised their family through the long days and the short years until death separated them on May 27, 1993.

Ina was a spirited woman with an independence and flare for fashion that preceded her through life. Her husband Karl was a talented tailor, this influenced Ina’s appreciation for style and class. Those who knew her can agree, Ina knew good fashion and took great care in her wardrobe!

Through her life, Ina impressed those around her with her work ethic and dedication in everything she did. This began at an early age when she assisted her parents in running a rest home, and continued through the years in the many customer service positions Ina held. Many will remember the profound care and commitment Ina took in managing the Victoria Harbour House from 1980 to 2010 and afterwards at Milanos’, in Nanaimo. She made so many friends and created cherished memories that she spoke about often. After her eight-year tenure at Milanos, she retired and moved back to Nelson to be close to family.

Ina was an adventurer! She loved meeting new people and seeing new places. She shared her passion and joy of travel with her children; the golden sun of Mexico and Hawaii will warm their memories of the trips shared with their mother. Another frequent destination for Ina was the beautiful country of Holland, where she would visit with Willie and Hans and the many other cousins and loved ones she held close to her heart.

Ina was a woman of many admirable qualities; she had an eye for art decor and a compassionate heart for serving others, but foremost, she was a woman with a strong commitment to family. Her joy was unparalleled at the birth of her first grandchild Julian, and her grief, bone-deep, when he left this world. She would be comforted by her remaining grandchildren, Ella, Luis, Reina, and great grandson, Spruce. Ina loved, more than any other role in life, her place of honour as Oma to the family.

On January 26, 2022 Ina left this world to be reunited with her family gone before her. We are left with a tenderness in our hearts that will always belong to our beloved Oma.
