James Terry Terry Wayling

July 19, 1936 - November 4, 2020

July 19, 1936 – Nov. 4, 2020

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband and father, Terry Wayling. On Nov. 4, 2020 Terry passed away peacefully at Kootenay Lake Hospital with his immediate family by his side.

Terry was born in Lethbridge, Alberta to Richard and Vera Wayling, the third son in a family of 4 boys. He spent much of his younger years between southern Alberta and Creston, B.C. where his parents owned a farm on the Creston flats.

After a short time in the Royal Canadian Air Force Terry completed his public schooling and went on to Victoria to pursue qualifications to begin his career in Education. He started his teaching at Central School, then on to principalships, to Director of Instruction, and to Superintendent of the Castlegar School District for his last 9 years before retirement.

On July 5, 1962 Terry married his loving wife, Dorothy. Later they were blessed with 3 children, Richard, Jennifer and David. He was a great role model, teaching and supporting them right up until the day he left this earthly planet. The death of his son. Richard, was a great sadness for him.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his daughter Jennifer (Colin), son David, daughter-in-law Robyn, brother Bill, and special step granddaughters Raelee, Tristalyn and Brooke. He is also survived by his extended Wayling family and the Maglio (Judy and Mel) clan.

Over the years Terry was very involved with teacher and administrator commitees as well as being a City Councilor and Hospital Board member. In latter years he assisted his wife with numerous Hospital Auxiliary commitments and became a member of the Auxiliary.

He spent his retirement years enjoying a few rounds of golf with old friends, reading many books, following business info on television and watching his favourite teams, the Blue Jays and Raptors in the world of sport.

If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation, 3 View St., Nelson, B.C. V1L 2V1

Big hugs and thank yous to Dr.McKechnie, Dr. Tuvel, and the incredible staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital. Thank you also to the paramedics and staff at the Medical Clinic. Terry loved you all!

Condolences to a family who was my second family growing up, your house always open to all of us..My memories of Terry are the best, his laughter, his kind words, his encouragement, his willingness to listen, his booming voice from behind the plate as an umpire, to that same booming voice MR BURGOYNE GET OUT OF MY CHAIR….and “don’t you have somewhere else to be”..Knowing full well he loved us being there..
Thank you Terry for raising an amazing family, not just your own, but all of us…Watch a ball game with Rich and say Hi, love you all..

I’ll never forget staying with your family when my own dad was ill. You were a second family for me, Terry, a second dad for that time. I remember his wonderful smile and sense of humour. I’m so saddened by your loss. Thinking of you and sending love.

Dear Dorothy, Dave and family, I was sorry to hear of Terry’s passing. Although it’s been a long time since I’ve seen or spoken with him, he holds a very special place in my heart. We had a lot of fun working together all those years ago and he made the office a great place to be. He was a kind man. I’m keeping you close in my heart.
