Joyce Lillian Fraser

April 18, 1927 - December 24, 2012

Tribute

Born to William and Edith Isherwood in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Joyce spent her childhood in that city before her family came west during the Depression and settled in Aldergrove, BC. Joyce left high school to take a job in Vancouver during the war years.  It was while working for the income tax service that Joyce was introduced by her friend, Ruth Fraser, to Ruth's big brother Ron.  Ron Fraser was the love of her life, and they married in May, 1950.  Daughters Patricia and Colleen were born and the family was complete.  They moved to Grand Forks in 1958 for Ron's job with the CPR, and it was there that Joyce raised her children and made a home.  Ron and Joyce moved to Nelson in 1973. Joyce volunteered at the IODE shop and the Salvation Army. Kind-hearted, good-natured and enormous fun, Joyce was a cut-throat Scrabble player and avid knitter.  She embraced the new technology of email whole heartedly as it allowed her to keep in touch with family and friends far afield. She kept up-to-date on current events, but family was Joyce's greatest joy. She looked forward to visits from her children and grandchildren and loved to see the newest member of the family, two-year-old Fraser. Joyce leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Ron; daughters Patricia (Cal Koat) and Colleen, grandchildren Morgan Westcott (Matt). Tavis Blishen, Rhys Geisler (Kieren). and Chelsea Blishen; great-granddaughter Fraser Westcott; sister Pearl Seifred (Stan), sister-in-law Ruth Fox,many nieces and nephews and cousins in the UK.  No services will be held.

From: Susan Simcox Mlynarczyk
Relation: old family friend

My heart felt condolences to all of you. She was a wonderful Lady (with a capital L). She was “June Cleaver” with a touch of “Maude” and she always made me feel wanted and included. I know you will miss her but I truely believe the separation is only temporary and that she is smiling her special smile. She (and Mr. Fraser) touched my heart and made my life better. Thank you for sharing her.

From: Aubrey Blishen
Relation: Joyce was my ex mother in law

Ron and family
I will always cherise my memories of Joyce and those memories will always bring a smile to my face. Thru the years I saw Joyce as a devoted wife, caring mother, thoughtful grandmother and to me she was a great mother in law. Generous, giving and guarded. She will be missed!!

From: Charlotte Senay
Relation: friend of Pat's

Dear Pat, and family,

I was saddened to hear about your mother’s passing, and was grateful that Sue sent me the message.

It brought back memories of us in Grand Forks, your home, and you all…and I loved seeing a picture of her. I have not seen her for forty years, I think, but the woman I remembered shone through.

Sending love and light to you all,
Charlotte

PS Do stop in at our old home (on Whitehall Road) if you are ever driving by. Maybe we could fall off a horse or something. I think your mother would like that.

Relation: Friend
