Kathleen Vera Craig (Murphy)

Date of Death: July 18, 2018

Kathleen Vera (Murphy) Craig

Kathleen passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning July 18, 2018 at Kootenay Lake Hospital.

Kathleen was born in Nelson, BC in 1935. She was raised in Kaslo, BC by her Father (Mack Murphy, 1908-1977), Mother (Vera Murphy, 1910-1992), and her five siblings. She attended school in Kaslo through to Grade 11. She then moved to Mill Valley, California in 1953 to complete her Grade 12 at Tamalpais High School. Afterwards she moved back to Kaslo where she met and married George Royal Craig (1933-1995) on August 8, 1959. She was an LPN Nurse and Mt. St. Francis until 1985.

Kathleen is survived by her two children Kevin (Carmela) and Leanne (Bob Marsh), her two sisters Karen and Carmel, her four grandchildren Patrisha (Corby), Rebecca, Coleman, and Courtney, her two great grandchildren Max and Miss Tillie, as well as two step grand children Jamie and Cole.

Kathleen had a love for history and reading. She enjoyed cooking (everyone has had her home-made buns) and painting in her spare time. Many of her friends and family have her painted glassware to remember her by.

She was known as ‘Nana’ by all her grandchildren and friends.

Everyone who met her will remember her for being strong, independent, and feisty. She would do anything for anyone who needed help. She was a tough but loving soul. She was a great friend to many and the best mother and Nana anyone could have asked for.

We love you so much and will see you again one day!

There will be no funeral by request; the family will have a private gathering at a later date.

Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss. I am honored and blessed to have known Kathy. I will miss her. A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us, they live on and especially with the painted items Kathy gave away to lots of us she will not be forgotten.
“Like a bird singing in the rain, let grateful memories survive in time of sorrow.” -Robert Louis Stevenson
Kathy always told me I was not made of sugar so I would not melt in the rain so come on over and visit. I will miss our chats very much.

Good- bye, Ms Kathy, until we meet again. I have always admired your spunk and sass. I’m very honoured to have met you.

Relation: Patient in our clinic

I’m going to miss her, she always kept me amused with her sharp wit when she would come into our office. Rest in Peace.

My sincere condolences to your family.
I worked at Coles bookstore and it was always such a pleasure when Kathleen came in looking for her latest read. Our conversations always started with books but inevitably wandered on to so many different topics. Kathleen shared her pie crust recipe with me when I confessed to her that as much as I loved to bake, my pie making skills were seriously lacking.
Such a wonderful, and yes, feisty woman. That’s one of the things that I loved about her.

Relation: Family friend growing up

Kevin and Leanne; I am so very sorry to hear the news of your mom’s passing. Please accept my sincere condolences. She was quite the feisty and sassy lady; reading her obituary brought back a flood of good memories growing up. Rest In Peace Kathy
