Kenneth Rayner Turner

February 29, 1928 - October 27, 2010

Ken was born in O’Leary P.E.I. In 1928 he was the fourth of five boys. He came out west driving a truck 1948 and here he stayed. On August 25, 1950 he had his first date with Iris and exactly one year later on that exact date there were married.
Their first bundle of joy, Barry, arrived in 1952 to be followed by Glenn in 1954, Dean in 1957 and last but not least, Randy in 1960.
They started their lives in town on Third Street; Ken was working for CPR at that time. After this they had a few moves, but the most important happened in 1958, when bought and moved to Shady Lane Cabins. In 1959 Ken gave up working for CPR and ran the motel and started what he became known for, his carpentry. In the years to follow, Ken built many homes and did many renovations, and these skills he passed on to his sons.
During his years at Shady Lane, Ken was able to enjoy his lifelong passion of fishing. They ran the motel for 16 years. Through those years, many people passed through and many friendships began.
In 1973 they sold the motel and moved up the hill on Heddle Road to what was called the Big House. Here they lived for ten years. With a move to Ken’s last job at the Kiwanis Villa where they worked as the caretakers for 8 years.
During these years there was a time for curling, travelling south and enjoying life.
They moved out to the lake house in 1984 and after many years renovations, they had a wonderful home that all came to love.
During the last few years, health issues curtailed Ken’s travelling and curling, but he never had to give up on his one true love of fishing.
Their final move finishing the circle was back to town where they started, not far from the first house, but in the best location overlooking the park. Ken realized that Iris was right, that she had found the perfect last home for the both of them.
Ken is survived by his wife of 59 years, Iris, four sons; Barry of Nelson, Glenn of Port Coquitlam, Dean of Nelson, and Randy of Nelson. One remaining brother, Al of Ontario. He had eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family would sincerely like to thank everyone for their support at this difficult time.
