Obituary

It is with great sorrow that the family of Leona (Lee) Waddell of Nelson, BC announce her peaceful passing on July 23, 2019.

Lee suffered a stroke in April of this year and fought a determined battle to gain back her good health and independence.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Nelson United Church on August 31, 2019 at 11:00 am in order to make sure her family and friends from across Canada can be here.

The family would like to thank the Kootenay Lake Hospital, The Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, the Kelowna Rehab Centre and Mountain Lakes for the compassionate care Lee received.  Although Lee had lost her ability to speak she expressed her thanks through her loving spirit that all her caregivers recognized.

Lee is survived by her loving sister, Shirley of Calgary, sister in law Doreen of Calgary, Son Randy (Theresa) of Yellowknife, son David (Bonnie) of Red Deer, Grandchildren: Robert (Susan), Raena, Scott (Samantha), Adam (Mandelle) and Jeffrey, Great Grandchildren: Joshua, Logan, Liam, Parker, Caelan, Cordelia, Rory, Briar, Quinn and Henley, the Kalyniuk family and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins and many dear friends from Nelson who have been a great support to the family during the last 3 ½ months.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nelson United Church, Nelson Senior Citizen’s Branch #51, Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation, or an animal shelter of your choice. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.

From: Bonnie Bell

I’m so sad to hear of Lee’s passing. I was part of her Bridge club that played on Wednesdays for the past several years and loved her dearly. She was an excellent player and so much fun to play with. I learned so much from her and loved her gentle positive encouragement. We will miss her so much! Love and prayers for the family to help ease the pain of your loss, Bonnie Bell

From: Rosemary D Cowles

Remembering one whose journey left so much love and beauty behind. With our love and deepest sympathy, Rosemary and Clair Cowles

From: Karen Janzen
Relation: Cousin

Randy, David and families, my deepest condolences. Leona and my
Dad (Lloyd Briese) had a strong bond, in fact dad thought of Lee and Shirley as younger sisters, since he lived with the Montgomery family for several years. Leona had such an easy smile, a generous soul, and a loving heart. I will miss her, but will remember her always. So sorry for your loss.

From: Ryan Morris
Relation: Son of a Close friend

Her hummingbirds and baking cookies with her are two of my strongest memories in BC. She was the one who showed my that some things could move so fast that the eye could not see them. She was a wonderful friend to my mom and dad and I will miss stories about her.

From: Ann and Barry Lange
Relation: Only knew her sons and their families.

Our condolences to the Waddell family. Although we did not know Lee we know her two sons Dave and Randy, and grandson Rob, and realize that she must have been a great woman to raise two such well mannered, gentle men. Dave and Bonnie you are in our thoughts.

From: Judy Kozak
Relation: Aunt

Thinking of you all at this sad time. Remembering Auntie Lee with love from a long time ago. She was always so kind to me.

From: Lillian Sangster, Lee Jardine, Cathy Wark and Don Sangster
Relation: Lee was my Mom’s first cousin.

Your Manitoba relatives extend condolences to Randy, David, and Shirley Baker as well as their families. Lee and I share the same name and she’d told me, when I was a teenager, I should take obtain my hairdressing licence so we could work together. I wished I’d done that, she was a special lady but we never got to visit often.
