A Good Man Gone

Louis Emilio Ponti

August 6,1930 – December 27, 2015

Salmo, BC

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Louis. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. His loving wife of 56 years, Joan, predeceased him April 1, 2008. He also leaves behind his children, Pat (Lorinda), Kim (Scott) and Randy (Morven), his brother, Bert (Connie), and four grandchildren, Robb, Kalyn, Kevin and Ryan. He was the cherished patriarch of the family and was a well known millwright and avid community volunteer. While working in the mining and logging industry and raising his family in Salmo, he led a wonderful life, full of family gatherings and friends.  Louis loved to fish, golf and travel.  His greatest joy was his family and friends. In late Spring there will be a celebration of a life well lived.

So sorry for your loss. As a friend of Pat’s it was always clear that he and his family had a very deep love, respect and admiration for his Dad.
My teenage son has started working odd jobs at our cottage and has a paper route and I have often shared with him the wisdom Pat shared with me that came from his Dad.. which was along the lines of always do a little bit more or a better job than the customer expects and you will always have satisfied customers and lots of business! Words from a very wise man!
I hope the many memories bring comfort over time.

I am sending my deepest condolences to Louis’s children, Pat, Kim, Randy and their families, and to Louis’s brother Bert and his family. Louis was a wonderful man and I really enjoyed the visits I had with him and also Joan whenever we stopped by their home in Salmo. They always welcomed me and whoever I was travelling with at the time. He will be missed by many.

We are so sorry for your loss, I’m sorry that this condolence is so late. I meet your mom Joan when her mom Eileen Usherwood lived in the nursing home in Lethbridge. Your mom stayed at our home while visiting her mom. (We lives across the street from where your Gramdma Usherwood lived). Sometimes when your mom would come your dad would come with her. Our son Jordan was very little when she first stayed with us. When he would come into the house he would call out ‘Joan we are home”. Our children Jordan and Katie looked forward to their stays with us. Your mom sent Christmas Cards every year and when she passed away your dad sent the Christmas cards. We would send a card with pictures of the kids and updates as to what was going on with them.
This year I thought it was odd (as we always looked forward to his card) we did not get a card from your dad in the mail. I called his number and it was disconnected. I looked up his name on google and his obituary came up.
We are very sad to hear of his passing. Your mom and dad spoke very fondly of their children and were so very proud of their grand children. You and your familys are in our thoughts and prayers.
