Lucille Marie Harkness
March 18, 1931 - July 17, 2013
Tribute
Lucille was an incredibly kind, and caring person. Not only to her family, but to her community as a whole. She volunteered her time and money to many fundraisers for the church. She would bake goods for special events and funerals. She was a member of the Catholic Women's league, and attended her church regularly. She sang in the choir, and enriched the lives of everyone she met.
Lucille was very active. She always loved to walk the streets of Nelson. She would stop and talk to everyone along the way, spreading the kindness and warmth that everyone felt when she was near. She spent many hours in her garden, growing fruits and vegetables and beautiful flowers. Lucille has been involved in a bowling league for many years, and continued to go right up until the end.
Lucille was born in Quebec, but met her husband Robert Harkness and moved to BC in her twenties. She was a home body, but was the type of person who lived for love. She braved the unknown, and crossed Canada. She was never seen without a romance novel in hand. Her compassion for family and friends, showed that she truly understood what love means.
Lucille was the sister, mother, aunt, and grandmother of many. Each and every member of her large family owes a tremendous debt to her teachings of humility, compassion, and kindness. She will be greatly missed.
Lucille was wife to Robert Harkness who passed in recent years. She is survived by sons Brian, Michael, David and daughter Marie. Her family is too numerous to name, however all have benefited hugely from her teachings of humility, compassion, and love. She was kind and giving, and now she is at home with the lord whom she served unfailingly her whole life.
