Marilyn Lois Steacy (Sherritt)

June 8, 1939 - August 8, 2015

Marilyn Steacy, of Balfour, BC, passed away on Saturday, august 8, 2015, at her home, with her family by her side.  Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on June 8, 1939, Marilyn grew up in a farmhouse near Pense.

Education was important to Marilyn.  Her lifelong support of the U of S Huskies was the result of her degree in Home Economics and her husband, Ted, whom Marilyn met at the University of Saskatchewan.  After teaching in Regina, California and BC, Marilyn returned to the U of S for a Masters in Education Psychology.  This led to twelve years of counseling at Walter Murray Collegiate in Saskatoon.  After retirement, Marilyn went back to school again to complete a program in Theological Education from the University of the South.

Marilyn raised three children with Edward (Ted) Steacy in Rossland, Pine Point, Kimberley, Calgary, Sydney AU, and Saskatoon.  She is survived by her husband, Ted; her daughters, Jill (David Ames), Leanne (Kevin DeBiasio) and son Michael (Dorothy Wong) and nine grandchildren.  She took great pride in the home she built with Ted on their property in Balfour, BC, and invited many people to share it with them through their years of retirement.

Marilyn was a gatherer of friends and family.  She kept them all connected by phone calls and invitations for coffee and muffins at their beautiful lake house.  We laughed, loved, walked, swam, skied, hiked, talked and prayed together.  She provided an example of generosity, a keen interest in others, and shown what true grace looks like in the face of adversity.

A life-long Anglican, Marilyn was devoted to the Saint Michaels and All Angels Anglican Church in Balfour.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ladies Guild would be appreciated.

A Celebration of Life for Marilyn will be held at the Covenant Church in Balfour, BC, on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at 11:00 am.  A reception will follow.

I regret so not knowing Marilyn was reaching her end with us, for I wish I could have expressed to her how her life had touched me & Dirk. She, with my husband, deceased 11 months ago, often were together at the Nelson Hospital chemo ward, for their treatment with Dr. Malpass, & she always brightened our lives with her positive, loving outlook, all the years she contended with treatment for cancer. Our lives were touched for good by Marilyn’s, & I enjoyed 4 years in our mutual EFM seminar together. Thanks, Marilyn, for demonstrating how to live with grace, purpose, trusting in the living God…& for being our friend! Rest in peace, dear Marilyn.

Forever in my heart, Aunt Marilyn, my mentor

who encouraged us as girls to dance,

guided us to worship,

counseled us as teens,

cautioned us to drive slowly on the curved highway to Nelson,

but in all things, trusted and encouraged us to go out into the world.

With patience she put me on a plane at age 17 to start my first job at the bank, introduced me at her alma mater and counseled me on higher education, helped me plan a Balfour wedding by phone from Nunavut, showered me in her home as a bride, decorated Saint Michael and All Angels for our wedding day from her garden, said grace at our wedding dinner, and wrote to me every Christmas since.

And my favourite memory, let us roll our corn in the butter dish!

I am blessed to have had her friendship, honoured for all the times she chose to mentor and guide me, and joyful that she is now in His loving arms. When we meet again, I will know her by her laughter and song.

May God’s grace ease the Steacy family through this difficult time and bring you to a place of peace. Thinking of you all, Uncle Ted, Jill, Leanne, Michael and families. God bless.

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him; then you will overflow confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Dear Ted & Family,
How that lovely, creative, kind and generous lady will be missed by us all. I’ll never forget the first time we met during one of my workshops … we had so much fun and lots of laughter. In recent years, whenever I ran into her, we’d chat, she never complained and I didn’t fully realize how frail she really was … she was always asking after others. I’m so sorry she has left us. My best to family and close friends. Bless you, Marilyn xx
