Myrtle Virginia Suffredine (Fraser)

August 31, 1927 - November 28, 2020

Tribute

Myrtle Virginia Suffredine (née Fraser)

We sadly advise of Myrtle’s passing on November 28, 2020. Meeting a peaceful, natural end after 93 full and active years, she was the youngest of 11 children, born in Saskatoon August 31, 1927, where she grew up and wed Wray in December of 1947 after his return from the war. In 1953, they moved to Regina and for 20 years built Allied Customs Brokers, into a national chain in partnership with brokerage firms across Canada. After they sold their business in 1972, they traveled the world for the next year, then returned to Sudbury to help friend begin a travel agency and then to Toronto where Wray was a business consultant and manager of a movie studio until 1975 when a short visit to Nelson became home. Myrtle was active in a variety of community groups, service clubs, and politics. In 1992, she lost Wray to cancer and then her daughter, Tracy, to heart disease in 2010. She made the most of the years that followed, traveling around Canada and Mexico to enjoy her family, their wine and scotch. She suffered fools poorly, cracking with sharp wit. In keeping with her pragmatic, Scottish roots she was happy to not linger as the effects of old age and life wore on. Myrtle is survived by her son, Blair and his wife, Judi, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-children and great-grandchildren. Her ashes will be laid to rest alongside Wray and Tracy when circumstances permit family travel.

Just learned today of the passing of Myrtle and I send my sincere condolences. We met at the Aquafit class when we moved to Nelson in 1992 and we enjoyed several New year’s eve dinners with her and her neighbours and friends. My son. Colin, was her next-door buddy for several years – he passed away in 1998. She will be greatly missed.
