Norma Eileen Nunn

May 12, 1919 - December 30, 2014

Norma Eileen Nunn 95, of New Denver BC passed calmly on December 30th, 2014 at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital after succumbing to injuries sustained in a car accident near Hills BC.

Norma was born May 12, 1919 in Winnipeg to Arthur and Peg Nunn.  Norma was big sister to Doreen and Ray.  Norma graduated from school in Winnipeg then went on to Steno training before getting her first job in 1937. A couple years later Norma met Enid Mehuish who became her best lifelong friend.  While in Winnipeg, Norma became a trained Boy Scout Leader and was Akela for a few years.  In 1946, Norma moved to Vancouver and quickly found a position with Workman’s Compensation Board where she worked as a secretary then statistical clerk until her retirement in 1975.  While in Richmond Norma and Enid were active Rockhounds and spent many fun weekends camping and searching for jade, agates and other treasures.  In 1975 Norma, Enid and Peg made the move to New Denver to be closer to Ray and his family.  While in New Denver, Norma especially enjoyed boating, exploring the back roads and hiking.  Norma always loved to travel.  She visited England, went on a Panama Cruise and a couple Caribbean cruises, but her favourite destination was Hawaii. Norma loved music and had a special ability to pick up an instrument and within moments be able to play.  If there was music anywhere, you could bet Norma would have a toe tapping and fingers moving always keeping time.  Norma especially enjoyed playing her guitar with the ‘Golden Oldies’ group and attending the Tuesday afternoon quilting sessions in the church basement.

Norma is survived by sister Doreen in Winnipeg, nephews and nieces, Barry (Sue) Peever, Judy (Wally) Hulkewych, Grant (Cindy) Peever, Belinda (Wayne Chanasyk) Nunn, Christopher (Stacey) Nunn and many grand nieces and nephews.

Norma is predeceased by her best friend, Enid Melhuish, her brother Ray Nunn and special little dog Nikki.

Memorial service will be held 2pm, Saturday, January 3rd, 2015 at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church with reception tea to follow at the Bosun Hall in New Denver.

Many thanks to the New Denver Fire and Rescue, Shawn of the Slocan Lake Detachment RCMP and the Paramedics for their excellent management of a very difficult and technical rescue and many thanks to everyone in the Community who have shown Norma countless kindnesses through years past and now to her family in this difficult time.

“I never spoke with God,

Nor visited in heaven,

Yet certain am I of the spot

As if the chart were given.”
