Patrick Doolan

September 17, 1963 - February 1, 2017

It’s with broken hearts that the family of Patrick “Dooley” Doolan announce his passing after a short fight with cancer at the age of 53.  Patrick was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba on September 17, 1963 to Brian and Lola Doolan and he passed away peacefully with his family at his side in Nelson, British Columbia on February 1, 2017.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years Julie, his daughters Tessa (son-in-law Dan) and Kyndle, mother Lola, sister Betty Lou (brother-in-law Ed), niece Amber, and nephew Andrew.  Patrick was predeceased by his father Brian.

Patrick established a long career at Canadian Pacific Railway for 35 years that took his family to many small communities throughout British Columbia that they called home including Sparwood, Wasa, Cranbrook, Golden, and finally Nelson.

Patrick touched the lives of many people with his kind heart and overwhelming generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.  Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life on Saturday March 4th, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Prestige Lakeside Resort, 701 Lakeside Drive, Nelson BC.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada in Patrick’s memory in loving support to his niece and nephew.

“God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be.  So he put his arms around you and whispered, “Come to me.”  A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest.  God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.

From: Ted Garner
Relation: Friend and co-worker

Julie and family: Just want to give you my condolences. Pat was a good friend and co-worker for many years. He will always be remembered in my thoughts, as being the great cook and the guy with a great laugh and sense of humour when we hunted together in years gone past. R.I.P. Pat.

From: Darcy Griffith
Relation: Work

Dear Julie and family: It made me so sad to read this. I worked on the Steel Gang kitchen in 1983 when I met Dooley. We were close in age, kids really. We traveled & worked that year from Yale BC to Thunder Bay a crew of about 75 to 80 and became close. Even though I left crew life in 1985 ( I married Byron mechanic for CPR ) and we settled and raised a family in Calgary spoke odten of those days and we never forgot our friend Dooley with the big grin and happy demeanor. RIP Pat. Gone way too soon. My sincere condolences to the entire family. May you find some strength and comfort in the memories he has left you. – Ms. Darcy Griffith.
