Paul Gergely

November 14, 1931 - May 18, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Paul Gergely, at the age of 80, on Friday, May 18th.

Born and raised in Revelstoke, Paul moved on to Castlegar and Nelson where he and his lovely wife Carol raised their family and Paul indulged his passion for music. Paul plied his trade with many musical groups; especially as long time member and director of the Nelson Community Band.

In addition to his musical pursuits, Paul enjoyed his bowling, golf, “coffee-time” and aqua-fitness. He often kept busy sorting music or volunteering at the local chamber of mines. The highlight of any week would be a high stakes card game with the “gang”.

Paul is predeceased by his wife Carol, twin brother Ted and sister Margaret. He is survived by his daughters Linda, Sharon (Steve) Fabro, Barb and granddaughters Marley and Abbey.

Thanks for all the beautiful music. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Sharon and family.
Even though we haven’t seen each other much over the last few years memories are still there and I often think of you. Now I hear your wonderful dad has passed on He always stopped and talked to me whenever he saw me and e always laughed. We talked always about you but we also shared music stories. I enjoyed his conversations. I pray for your peace of heart when r emembering your father. Love deb fuhr

I’m really sorry to hear of Paul’s passing. He and I have been friends for many years and worked together at Trafalgar, keeping the kids in line at lunch time. After your Mom passed away, I used to take him care packages whenever I made lasagna or other baking for the freezer until he said he needed to lose weight….
He was always alot of fun and always upbeat!! Nelson just won’t be the same without his smiling face and a hug.
I’ll keep you all in my prayers!
Paulie, I love ya and I’ll miss ya!!

Paul has been part of our life since about 1982, when we joined the Nelson Band – since then he has been musician, director, dictator, but most of all friend to us. Paul was part of the brass quintet that played at our wedding. We have been honoured to have him part of our children’s lives as well as they grew up and joined the band too. His knowledge, humour, and strength of character were always a highlight of our band nights. Thank you, Paul, for all you have given us.
