Tribute
Roberta Fry 1925- 2018
Roberta was born on a snowy winter day in Outlook Saskatchewan on January 6, 1925. She grew up with her 5 siblings in The Pas, Manitoba where her father worked as an engineer on the Hudson Bay Railway line to Churchill.
As a young woman Roberta moved to Winnipeg where she met her future husband, Les. They were married in 1947. In 1951 they moved to Vancouver with young son Russell in tow. Subsequently they lived in several different mining communities in B.C: Pioneer, Remac, Texada Island, Princeton, and Wells.
Remac, a small mining community south of Salmo, is where they raised their 3 sons, Russell, Greg, and Darcy and lived for 20 years until the mine closed in 1975. Here, Bobbie as she was fondly called, worked at the post office and general store. During these years the family would also spend their summers at Roberts Creek (Sunshine Coast) at an oceanside cottage with her sister’s family. This was always a treasured part of her life with many fond memories. She moved back to Salmo in 1981 after her husband passed away where she continued an active community life. She also continued to enjoy her yearly journey to Fraser Lake and to Roberts Creek to visit family.
Roberta always had a cheery disposition and is remembered as someone with a ready laugh and a joyous, fun loving spirit. Her favourite activities were curling, playing bridge and was an avid reader. She was also a member of the Canadian Legion Ladies Auxilliary.
Roberta passed away on the winter solstice December 21 2018.
She is predeceased by her husband, Lester, four sisters and one grandchild, Camille.
She is survived by her brother Erland, 3 sons Russell (Leona), Greg (Bettyanne), and Darcy and two grandchildren Valene (Eric), and Tyler (Nicola).

My condolences Russ, Greg and Darcy. I have so many wonderful memories of your Mom. Our summers and Roberts Creek and later our Curling talks and going to the Worlds here in Victoria. She was such a amazing lady! What a great sense of humour! I shall miss her!
