Tribute

Ronald Jamison Corbett

February 22, 1935 – July 5, 2016

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Corbett.  He died peacefully at Kootenay Lake Hospital surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer.

Ron was the second youngest of 9 children born to Victor and Jeanne Corbett in Nelson, BC.  He was predeceased by brothers Thomas, Levi, John, Jim and Gerald.  Along with his sister Ellen Bentham and brothers Allan and Maurice, Ron is survived by his loving wife Anne of 36 years, daughters Heather Lenos (David), Deirdrie Lang (Thomas Leney), Jeanine Bonson (Kevin McDougall), son William (Bill) Corbett, stepsons Blair Ferguson (Emily) and Scott Ferguson, as well as grandchildren Laura Lockhurst (Shane), Jennifer Lenos (Kane McKenzie), Aaron Lenos (Kayla), Alexandria, Clay and Sydney Corbett, Kyle and Emily Lang, Richard and Meagan Grypma, Layla and Henry Ferguson, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron attended Central School, Trafalgar Junior High School, Nelson High School (Class of ’52) and one year of Business School in Spokane.  He worked for the City of Nelson, Kootenay Forest Products and Thompson Funeral Service.  Ron was a long-time member of the Kinsmen Club and Nelson United Church.  He was a volunteer delivering food to the Food Cupboard and Our Daily Bread as well as Meals on Wheels.

Ron was a great store-house of knowledge about Nelson and its people from his early days of being a paper boy, delivering for Bradley’s Meats and the mail.  He enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, listening to music, attending concerts, square dancing and travelling which included trips with the Kokanee Sam’s RV Club.  He loved family gatherings and connecting with his family’s roots in Nova Scotia.

He had a quiet sense of humour and loved being around the young grandchildren.  Mothers could always count on Grandpa to put their babies to sleep.

Grateful thanks to Dr. Woodward and the wonderful staff on the Third Floor for their comfort and care while Ron was in the hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation or the BC Cancer Foundation.

A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at the Nelson United Church, 602 Silica Street, on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10:30 am.
