Shaun Halsey Skene

May 23, 1974 - February 25, 2010

Shaun Halsey Skene, born May 23, 1974, was tragically killed in an industrial accident while working at his trade as a heavy duty mechanic on February 25, 2010.

Shaun lived his life as all others should. He was loyal and honest, he always did what he thought was right and no matter how busy he was, he always made time to help anyone who needed it.

Shaun had many interest through out his life including gliding and flying, wrestling, Taekwon-Do, billiards, hunting, fishing, prospecting, cooking, and creating and maintaining a hobby farm.

In his short time here Shaun was able to achieve anything he put his mind to. He had received numerous awards in air cadets, a private pilot’s license, the Duke of Edinburgh’s award, a black belt in Taekwon-Do, built a business and he found love that would last the rest of his life.

He will be missed and loved forever by his best friend and partner Leanne Cherry, his mother Hazel, his sister Sarah(Steve), nieces Cynthia and Carlie, his uncles Gord(Phyllis), and Ken(Shirley), the Cherry family who thought of him as one of their own, his loyal companion Chester, many friends and members of the Skene and Halsey families.

A funeral service will be held at The Nelson United Church, 602 Silica Street, Saturday March 6, 2010 at 2:00pm, with a celebration of life to follow at the Christie Hall. Cremation will follow the service.

As an expression of sympathy family and friends may bring stories and pictures to share or may make a donation to Angel Fund c/o Nelson Animal Hospital, 2124 Ymir Road, Nelson, BC V1L 6Y9

From: Patricia & Ian Nethercote
Relation: Long time friend

We met Shaun when he was 12 and joined the Nelson Air Cadets and followed his journey through the years until we moved to Costa Rica.
Shaun and I, Pat, spent many, many hours together while he moved up in cadets, participating together in camps in the snow and getting sunburned at gliding weekends in Trail.
It was my privilege to guide and then accompany Shaun to Victoria,BC, to receive his ‘Duke of Edinburgh’ award.
He accomplished much in his too short time here on earth.
Please accept from our whole family, Pat, Ian, Neil and Andrea, PAINN, (an inside joke) our love and condolences, to Hazel & Sarah whom we knew well and to the other family members who we have never met. An of course, Leanne, our thought s are with you, although we have never met you. I am sure you ‘know’ us.

Shaun, You were my best friend growing up. I was deeply saddened to hear of your passing. I remember the last time I spoke with you I was hitchhiking to the store and though you were late when you passed you stopped turned around and came back to get me, typical of the type of caring man and friend you were.
I can remember all the times we spent as kids getting into and out of trouble in your canoe in storms or digging in your gravel mine shaft. Going to your Dads radiator shop ” A good place to take a leak” or stressing out the bus driver by getting off at each others homes without permission.

I enjoyed going fishing with you in your boat that last time and learning about prospecting from you, working in your shop in town and hearing how happy you were as of late.

I don’t think you will ever know how much of an impact you made upon my life .

I can honestly say I will never meet another man as kind and hard working as you the world is a lesser place without you in it

My heart goes out to your mom and sister and Leanne

In my heart always

To Shaun’s Family…

My memories of Shaun are from our days together as cadets with the 561 RCACS, Nelson Squadron. We spent a lot of time together during those years and created some very special memories while doing so.

Shaun was very passionate about all of his interests and always inspired others to raise up to any challange they may face. No task was too large for Shaun and he tackled everything he did with a smile. My thoughts are to his family, in particular Mrs. Skene, who was always there by his side at every cadet function helping where she could.

I will remember Shaun for his innovativeness and willingness to try anything. He was respected by all who worked with him and for him at the cadet unit.

Rest In Peace Shaun.
