October 9, 1942 - December 18, 2012

Shirley Dianne Lipsack (Traxel) of Kaslo, British Columbia passed away at the Victorian Community Health Center in Kaslo on December 18, 2012 due to complications from ovarian cancer.

Shirley came to Kaslo from Calgary in the mid 2000’s to be with Kurt Patalla, who passed away on November 08, 2011. She was actively involved in the community, working at the Kaslo Drug Store, she was a member of St. Andrew’s Church, and volunteered with numerous charities.

Shirley is survived by her one daughter, Tracy (Michael) Fawcett of Calgary, and grandchildren Zachary Fawcett of Calgary, and Bronwyn (Jeff) Butler of Calgary, her beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Mikey, brothers Norman (Jerolyn) Traxel and Keith Traxel, sister Darlene (Brian) Kemp, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind Kurt’s sons Gordon Patalla of Vancouver Island and Robert (Lisa) Patalla of Calgary.

Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held in Kalso late next spring or early summer (2013). As per her wishes, the funeral will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, which will be followed by interment at the Kaslo Cemetery.

Thompson Funeral Service Ltd. Staff send our condolences to family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

From: Jill Braley
Relation: A friend

I am very sad to learn of Shirley’s passing. I knew Shirley for the last several years. She always had a smile on her face, no matter what she was going through within the last year. She loved her Jack Russel Terrier “Mikey” dearly. Shirley was such a kind, caring person and I will miss her alot.

From: Keleegh Sinclaire
Relation: Friend

Shirley gave so much to the community; volunteer at the hospital for people in need of wheelchairs, etc., volunteered many hours with the Hospital Auxiliary , cooked meals at the Senior Citizens Hall for seniors functions, so I chose her for Citizen of the Year in 2010, although she wasn’t chosen I believe she was well deserving of the recognition. Shirley’s place in the community will be difficult to fill.

From: Stephanie Fawcett
Relation: Family

To Tracy and family, please accept my condolences. Losing a loved one is tragic especially a gracious and loving mother like Shirley. I was glad to have known her, she was a lovely woman. Wishing peace and comfort during this difficult time.

From: Merelyn Jones
Relation: Worked at PS drugs together

Tracy -I was shocked and sad to read in the Star today about your mother’s passing. I enjoy pleasant memories of working with her at Pharmasave and I can still see her cleaning and tidying around the cosmetics department. We had not seen each other for many years but did meet by chance at the optometrist about 3 years ago and had a good chat. My thoughts are with you and your family at this time.

From: Lori (Lipsack) Strom
Relation: Cousin

Tracy, I was so sorry to hear about your Mom. We have lost touch over the years but I still have such good memories of you and your family.

Shirley was a happy presence at the hospital gardens on so many occasions and I so enjoyed chatting with her while working in the garden. She gave so much to our community and is sadly missed.
