Thelma Bethiah Aasen (Wolfe)

March 23, 1934 - September 25, 2015

Tribute

March 23, 1934 – September 25, 2015

THELMA BETHIAH AASEN nee WOLFE passed away peacefully at the Kaslo Victorian Hospital, in Kaslo, B.C. on Friday, September 25, 2015, at age 81.

Thelma was born on March 23, 1934 to parents Gottlib and Ida Wolfe in Mazenod, Saskatchewan.  She grew up in Mossbank, Saskatchewan  where she  married our dad Ernest Aasen on September 20, 1950.   She tells the story that her and dad came out to B.C. on vacation and got lost in Kaslo and that is how they became residence of Kaslo.  Many people remember Thelma from the years when they owned the chicken farm and she would deliver eggs to many homes in Kaslo.  They also owned a turnip farm and were able to supply the local stores with turnips.  Thelma worked at the J.V. Humphries School as a custodian and bus driver for many years and made many wonderful connections with the teaching staff and students.  She was a caring individual whose passion was taking care of others.  She was always available to drive people to doctors appointments in various locations and waited patiently to take them home again.  Many within Kaslo and around the country remember Thelma for calling them every year on their birthday and anniversaries without fail.   She was always there to provide a helping hand within the community as well as to anyone who needed a ride, a hug, someone to listen or a warm place to stay .  Thelma enjoyed singing with the Granny’s choir and now you can be sure that she will still be there as a voice of an angel.  On Sunday mornings,  Thelma was the person that the church could depend on to make  the church toasty warm before the church services on a cold winter morning, have the coffee ready for after the service, and help with the clean up after the service.  One of Thelma’s favorite places to be was in front of the fireplace in front of a fire at the Kaslo Hotel.  On many occasions she would take to the stage on karaoke night and bless the patrons by singing hymns (they had a playlist just for her).  Once she had taken up residence in the Kaslo Victorian Hospital you could be sure that you would met with a hug from Thelma.   She left her earthly home on September 25, 2015 to be with her Lord and Saviour for eternity.

She is survived by her family – daughters – Teena (Lloyd) Adrian, Laura Aasen, Rose (Rudy) Egger, Marjorie (Stefan Marchand) Aasen.  Grandchildren – Daniel (Sarah) Adrian, Grace Adrian (Raye) Heppner, Debra Funk (Rodney) Julie Harrington, Cindy Munn (Trevor) Great Grandchildren – Dusty Heppner, Shafawn Heppner, Nadine (Andrew) Christy, Darren Adrian, Kobe Adrian, Dakota Adrian, Alysha Funk, Kirstin Funk, Emylie Collition, Saidey Collition, Alyvia Collition, Victoria Munn,  Great, Great Grandchild Sida Christy.  Brothers and Sisters – Samuel (Carolyn) Wolfe (brother), Helen Cooper, Margaret Dann, Nathaniel (Agnes) Wolfe.  Sister-in-laws Patricia Wolfe, Hilda Wolfe and  numerous nieces and nephews.

Thelma was predeceased by her husband Ernest Aasen, parents Gottlib and Ida Wolfe, brothers Phillip Wolfe and Fredrick Wolfe, and brother-in-law Vaughn Dann

Thelma’s family would like to thank the citizens of Kaslo for making this small town a home for our Mother.  She loved each one of you as if you were own family.  Thank you to everyone who was there for mom when she needed you.  We would also like to thank the staff at Kaslo Victorian Hospital for your special care of our Mother.  We are truly grateful to each one of you for treating her as if she were your own Mother.

Thompson Funeral Service Staff send our condolences to family and friends.

From: Pat Wolfe
Relation: Sister-in-law

Your Mom was special to our family. She would phone on birthdays and at Christmas, and it was appreciated by each of our family members. We cannot make it to the funeral, but have sent Bibles through the Gideons in her memory. We are praying for God’s comfort.
Love,
Aunt Pat

From: Bente and Dalton Peck
Relation: friens

Dalton and I send our sincere condolences to all of Thelma’s family. She was such an integral part of Kaslo. We stayed with her a couple of times and she always called on our birthdays, so to say she was special to us is an understatement. Heaven is a finer place with Thelma there.

From: Jill Braley
Relation: Friend

The community of Kaslo is just not the same without Thelma in it. I will always remember how very proud she was to receive Kaslo’s Citizen of the Year Award, a few years ago. She looked so happy having her picture taken by the S.S. Moyie, with RCMP Constable Andrew Luukko at her side. Rest in peace Thelma, we will miss you!

From: Pat (Leathwood) Dooley
Relation: Community member

I wanted to tell the Aasen family how much Thelma was appreciated. She was a part of Kaslo and reflected small town values that were touching. She phoned me and several of my brothers and sisters on our birthdays: She told me she followed the community calendar and wanted to remember people. Our thoughts and prayers are with you on the loss of this special person.

From: Sam and Carolyn Wolfe
Relation: Brother and sister-in-law

Our hearts are healing together. She certainly touched our lives. Donation in her memory made to “Open Doors” to feed the hungry and support the persecuted churches.
