Thelma Theresia Campbell (Bittman)

June 28, 1928 - March 14, 2017

Thelma passed away peacefully on the evening of the 14 of March in the KLH with her sister Electa at her side. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Harold Fenwick Campbell; father, Andrew Bittman, and mother, Johanna (nee Verlage) and brother Egon. She is survived by sisters Doris, Electa and Lorraine; children Arnold, Ivan (Marion), and Karen (Derrick MacDonald) and Grandchildren Ivan, Hallie, Eric, & Twyla; Erin and Andrew; and Tracy and Nancy in addition to seven great grand children. Thelma’s family moved to Ft. Vermilion in the early 1930’s where they became successful homesteaders. In turn she set out to establish her place in the world when she moved from the Fort to south eastern B.C. over 70 years ago. She met her husband Harold (b. 1920 d. 2014) in Kimberley and they made their life together in Nelson since 1948 where the first house they moved into became their permanent home and the place they raised their three children. During the course of her life in Nelson Thelma welcomed many other family members to the city some of who remained and became permanent residents, a fact that gave her great pleasure. However, one of her greatest pleasures was to celebrate special occasions and bring everyone together. Upon retiring from Safeway Thelma and Harold enjoyed trips abroad as well as throughout North America. A highlight of each trip always included a visit with friends or relatives and they were always most comfortable “on the road” when they were able to “put up for the night” in their camper. The family thanks Dr. Merrit and the 3rd Floor nursing staff at KLH, Caroline McMahon, and Michelle Trainor. Thank you to Bill Woodward for your friendship to Mum over the past two years and thanks to everyone who crossed Thelma’s path with a smile.

From: Linda Zeznik
Relation: Friend

I am thinking of you with love and fond memories of the many years your Mom (and your Dad)were fixtures around town. Pretty much getting to be an extinct group these days, us old Nelson natives.
They were the real grit around here, and I remember how your Mom always was so interesting to talk to ,with so much common sense.
Peace be with you all, as you go through this huge change in your lives.

From: Annette Ball
Relation: Friend of Karen

Karen and family, hugs and prayers. She will be missed
