Relation: Williams Lake medical association

We met Verilyn in 1966 when we moved to town to practice general medicine. We spent happy evenings together there and our friendship continued for many years after we left Williams Lake. At one point our son took piano lessons from Verilyn. Despite her expertise, she could do nothing for a young boy with a tin ear and a passionate love of sports!! We enjoyed our friendship with this brilliant musician who had such a simple trust in God and in her friends. Somehow, over the years, we lost contact, and despite efforts to find her could not. The obituary column answered our questions.. We have no doubt that Verilyn walked through the gates of splendor to be greeted with “Well done, good and faithful servant” Our condolences to Kathy and to her sister Dorothy and her family.

From: Ann-Marie Reynolds Hewer
Relation: Family friends from 1950s- 1960s

Our sympathy is with you and you are in our thoughts. Good memories remain brightly. Verilyn was so energic and musically talented – along with the whole family. Choir nights were special – and walking home afterwards was extra special. When I visited Dorothy, Verilyn or Mom would be playing the piano. God Bless you all, heal your hearts and let you bask in music and wonderful memories. Heaven’s choir and symphony is enriched!

From: Margaret Walker
Relation: special friend since grade seven.

I met Verilyn in 1947 when my family moved to Ladysmith and the Mackie family opened their doors and hearts to a family who had just arrived in B.C from Alberta and needed a place to park their travel trailer until a house became available in town. We shared their bathroom facilities for a time and Verilyn and I began grade seven together. She was already an accomplished pianist We lost touch when we moved to Victoria, but many years later Verilyn and I were neighbours when my husband and I lived in Point Grey. By this time, we had all been involved with the music department at UBC. Sadly, we lost touch again when she left our neighbourhood. I don’t know if Dorothy remembers any of this, but your sister was my very first friend in B.C. all those years ago.
My deepest sympathy to you and to Catherine in your sad loss.

From: Claire & Sarah Rhodes
Relation: She was our Friend & Piano Teacher

Verilyn taught Sarah piano and helped her to acquire her A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory of Music and her Licentiate Performance Diploma from the BC Conservatory of Music. She was a passionate musician, a dedicated teacher, and a loyal friend. She will be missed dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones. May God embrace you in comfort during this difficult time.
