William Eli Laktin
March 26, 1919 - May 17, 2013
Tribute
William (Bill) was born on March 26, 1919 in the Village of Glade, B.C. to the family of Eli and Mary Laktin.
He was proud to say he worked for three railway companies, with Burlington Northern Santa Fe being the last when he retired in 1976 after 36 years of service.
In 1957 he met and married Mabel Popoff and they lived their whole life in Salmo. Bill was a dedicated long time member of the Canadian Doukabour Society.
During his lifetime he and his wife enjoyed camping and fishing in their Get-A-Way Van. In his later years he enjoyed cross-country skiing. Bill was always reading to better himself and was very knowledgable with current affairs and he could talk aboutalmost anything.
When people asked what he contributed to his well being and long life, he always replied he had a very “good” wife that really knows how to cook wholesome healthy food and that he ate nothing from a can. Bill will be fondly remembered by so many people as a friendly personable person who just loved to “chat”.
Bill passed away at the Trail Regional Hospital on May 17,2013 at the age of 94. He was pre-deceased by his parents Eli and Mary Laktin, sister Molly, sister Julia, and sister Lucy Osachoff.
He is survived byhis loving wife Mabel of 56 years, his sister Mary Peters of North Vancouver, and brother Nick (Frances) of Chilliwack. Also left to mourn his loss are numerous nieces and nephews.
We are thankful for his life and know he is at perfect rest and peace in Heaven.
Funeral services were held at the Thompson Funeral Home in Nelson with Interment at Boulder Creek Cemetery in Salmo and reception ollowed at the Legion Hall in Salmo on May 23, 2013.
