Grief Resources
Having a funeral or memorial service for a loved one is a high hill to climb. Still, it is usually the first step on the grief journey. By being at the funeral, family and friends get to say goodbye. They get to share strong feelings. And, they get to support one another.
For most people, however, the weeks and months following the day of the funeral service are the most difficult. They feel a deep sense of sadness, loss and loneliness that may be overwhelming.
Grieving is a normal, natural reaction to loss. Individuals and families need others at this time, to help them with supportive understanding and positive encouragement. Grieving periods may vary from person to person. Research shows that the grief process may take 18 to 24 months on average.
